Treating His Employees Like Family

Reading this article made me feel good, because I'd like to think that no employer wants to pay his or her employees as little as possible, short them on hours, and not offer them health insurance. However, this is the first article I've read where the employer is trying to do right by his employees, not get fined, and keep all of his franchises afloat.

If some of the locations aren't doing so well, maybe the employees will think of a way to help out somehow. Like he says, if he can't stay in business, he can't employ anyone.

There are too many employers out there acting greedy and childish by taking their frustration at Obamacare out on their employees and, in at least one article I read, their customers. One of the most common ways they stiff the employees is  by cutting back the full time employees' hours so that they don't have to cover health insurance costs.

Whether you agree with Obamacare or not, this economy is tough on everyone. To a degree, I understand where the franchise owners are coming from, but is it really necessary to punish the small fish who are struggling so hard to make ends meet?

Food workers at these types of restaurants are generally busting their humps, and they barely make enough to live on. In some cases, they are already working more than one job. Yet too many employers treat them like drones. You should at least care enough about the people who work for you to want them to be healthy and able to support themselves.

It restores my faith in humanity when I hear of someone like this man, who's making an effort to do the right thing for everyone, rather than stepping on others because he's frustrated. The world needs more people like Dean Hodges, and I hope other franchise owners will be inspired by his social conscience.
