Exercise is The Fountain of Youth

I was inspired by Ernestine Shepherd (who also answers to the endearing moniker Miss Ernie). She is 75-years-strong, and she is the oldest female bodybuilder. (She's in the Guinness Book of World Records). Yep. And Miss Ernie isn't just a lovely older lady, she is a smokin' hottie. Not to mention an inspiration to others.

Ernestine tells us that, "age is nothing but a number", and she is living proof. Some of us simply accept, without question, that we will gradually stop being able to perform certain tasks, that we will have trouble getting up and about, that our bodies simply won't be as reliable as we enter our golden years. We simply give up and allow time to take its toll, taking little to no preventative measures.

This lady gets up at 3:00 a.m. and runs ten miles every morning. Then, she lifts weights. She doesn't stop there either - after she's finished working out, she trains others. Talk about being productive. I got tired just thinking about what her days are like.

Miss Ernie, apparently, has an endless supply of energy. Not everyone (young or old) can keep up with the likes of her, but she is a stellar example of how exercise can improve the quality of our lives. I hope you are inspired to find one or more physical activities that you enjoy, and make time for them daily. Even if it's for only ten or fifteen minutes at a time on busy days. Here is the headline (along with the accompanying article) that originally caught my attention. Be sure to watch the video, and there are some others featuring Miss Ernie, including a clip of her competing.

It's worth mentioning that Ernestine didn't start competitive bodybuilding until she was 71. I'm reminded of one of my favorite quotes from Bikram Choudhury, "It's never too late, it's never too bad, and you're never too old or too sick to start from scratch once again." What are you waiting for?
